$18-19/hour 

Full-Time|40 Hours/Week

Be the voice patients hear first! As a Referral/ Medical Clerk you’ll be one of the first points of contact for our patients, helping create a positive experience from the very first call. You’ll assist patients with scheduling appointments, answering questions, verifying insurance, completing referrals, and connecting them with the right resources—all while helping them navigate their healthcare experience with professionalism and compassion. What you’ll do: 

  • Greet and assist patients with referrals, appointments, and follow-up care.
  • Register patients, verify insurance, and complete required paperwork and encounter forms.
  • Coordinate specialty referrals, scheduling, authorizations, and follow-up with specialist offices.
  • Communicate with patients and providers regarding referral outcomes and follow-up instructions.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, referral documentation, and appointment information.
  • Process incoming and outgoing faxes, medical records, and correspondence.
  • Collect copayments and provide general clerical and front-desk support as needed.

What we’re looking for: 

  • Medical office knowledge/experience is highly desirable 
  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Experience working with an EHR system such as EPIC or Nextgen, or Medical Terminology is highly desirable
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment 
  • Positive, enthusiastic, and patient-focused attitude 
  • Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable 

Schedule Requirements

Must be available to work within the health center's Monday–Friday operating hours.

This is a 40-hour workweek. Candidates must be available to work within the following hours: 

Monday–Thursday: 7:00 AM–7:00 PM 

Friday: 7:00 AM–5:00 PM 

Your assigned schedule will fall within these operating hours.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND KNOWLEDGE: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Must be able to function independently in a high pressure environment. Must be able to present a positive and enthusiastic demeanor while directly working with patients. Excellent oral communication skills are required. Prior knowledge of the various insurance plans in which the organization participates is preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is primarily sedentary in nature. Long periods of time may be spent at a computer terminal. Delivery of patient charts between the front desk and the nurses station is required. Occasional travel between health centers may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a busy, multi-cultural ambulatory care setting. There is minimal exposure to infectious disease and blood borne pathogens.
